Goldings Parapet Wall Repair

Client: Ringway
Duration: 2 months
Location: North Road, Hertford

Overview

The masonry parapet wall on North Road bridge, Hertford, suffered vehicle impact damage, leaving sections unstable and posing safety risks to the public. The client required urgent remedial works to remove damaged brickwork, recover reusable materials, and reconstruct the parapet to its original specification. The solution needed to be delivered with careful traffic and pedestrian management in a constrained location, ensuring safe access and minimal disruption to the road network and surrounding properties.

Why RN were chosen

We were selected for our expertise in bridge and structural repair works, with a strong track record of delivering masonry and parapet repairs in sensitive locations. Our ability to manage pedestrian and traffic interfaces, provide safe site access, and deliver high-quality like-for-like restoration made us the trusted contractor for this project.

Solution / Delivery

Working in a tight roadside environment, our first priority was safety. We worked with the customer to establish clear traffic and pedestrian routes, protecting both the public and our team while ensuring the works progressed smoothly. Welfare facilities were put in place for the crew, and protective measures were installed before any damaged brickwork was removed.

The team then carefully dismantled the damaged section of the parapet, salvaging as many original bricks and cappings as possible for reuse. Debris from the nearby riverbank was cleared, and recovered pier cappings were reinstated to restore the structure’s original appearance. New brickwork was blended seamlessly with the old, maintaining the bridge’s character while improving its stability.

By the end of the works, the parapet was fully repaired, the site was cleared, and traffic management was removed, leaving a safe, restored structure ready for public use once again.
